While more recent installments like 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 have earned near-universal acclaim and monumental sales figures, fans are still nostalgic for the original Mortal Kombat trilogy. 1993’s Mortal Kombat II and 1995’s Mortal Kombat 3 would build upon the roster and lore of Midway's overnight sensation, with all three games eventually being re-released in the form of Mortal Kombat Trilogy for the original PlayStation, Nintendo 64, and PC in 1996. These striking features allowed the game to help Night Trap create the ESRB rating system. The original Mortal Kombat was released back in 1992 and changed the world of fighting games forever with its memorable roster of playable combatants and gory Fatality finishing moves.
